The granite island lies just off the coast and it is the site of the magnificent Salah el-Din fortress, built by Crusaders in the twelfth century. The Council of Egyptian Antiquities has restored the fortress to it’s original glory.

The Coloured Canyon lies 70 kilometers southwest of Taba, and this wonder is worth the trip. It takes about two hours to travel through the canyon with it’s walls of wildly coloured sandstone. It’s not necessary to leave the resort area however to enjoy numerous activities. Almost all Taba hotels feature tennis courts, golfing and private beaches. Water sports such as windsurfing and water skiing are readily available and the weather almost always co-operates.
